Welcome to the Web Site ofVictoria Hospitalist Physicians Inc.Who We AreVHPI is a group of physicians dedicated to medical care in Victoria. Presently, VHPI provides hospitalist services to the Vancouver Island Health Authority.
Hospital Medicine is a developing specialty which concentrates on the care of hospitalized patients and their transitions from and to the community. This care encompasses emergent and acute crises through appropriate timely diagnosis and treatment of health problems, involving the physical, social, psychological, and psychiatric. It also involves coordination and communication with the patient, health care workers, and community supports, including family, home nursing care, and personal family physician. Additionly, we are involved in resident teaching, research, and the development of guidelines and protocols to enhance patient care.
Members of VHPIVHPI consists of physicians who have had extensive experience in family medicine. They continue to provide a spectrum of care including HIV, hospice, and addiction medicine. In addition, all its members have specific training in Advanced Cardiac Life Support and Coronary-Pulmonary Resuscitation. Continuing Medical Education is important to us and we we have sponsored the 3rd and 4th Canadian Hospitalist Conferences in 2005 and 2006. The last two were in Vancouver in September 2007/2008, and the 7th will be in Ontario in 2009. Members of VHPI closely involved with their local, provincial, national, and international organizations. These include positions on the South Island Mediacl Advisory Committee, the VIHA SI Medical Staff executive, the executive of the BC section of Hosptial Medicine of the BCMA, the Canadian Society of Hospital Medicine and the Canadian Chapter of the Society of Hospital Medicine.
Working with VHPIVHPI is always recruiting qualified physicians, preferably with experience in community family medicine, with a strong interest in hospital medicine. In addition, continuing Medical Education in the areas of palliative care, geriatrics, addiction medicine, and critical care are useful. Specific training in Advanced Cardiac Life Support and Coronary-Pulmonary Resuscitation is a necessity, and we can help arrange for that, if necessary.
